#FearGardenProject started on March 25, 2020 as a month-long project. It was my response to entering COVID-19 quarantine in the Bronx. After having worked for several years to overcome post-traumatic stress disorder and be able to leave my house without panicking, I found myself once again stuck inside. Because I understood intensely the difficulties of isolation—social, emotional, and physical—I wanted to recognize the small moments of beauty that can help pull one through traumatic times. Originally there were photos from the garden I built in our front yard, which was one of my way of baby-stepping myself back into the world, as well as longer posts related to fear and trauma recovery. After shutting down the project on April 26, 2020 I heard from some that it had been meaningful, so I re-started it in modified form during the summer of 2020. This time the photos are from nature in various places, all taken and captioned by me, and there are no long posts. It is a sort of daily meditation, a place of brief respite, a reminder that nature writes its own narrative of survival.
